A Solid Foundation for Living
The Kenyon Green Apartments structure stands proudly beside a busy roadway in Lakeville, Minnesota, securely atop a foundation constructed from strong, durable precast and prestressed concrete building components.
A series of solid precast concrete slabs frame the perimeter of the site, while two courses of precast concrete columns support precast inverted tee beams (IT beams) that run the length of the complex. These are topped by prestressed hollowcore, which serves as the ground floor of the apartment building.
Hollowcore is fabricated with tubular voids running through them, making them more lightweight than solid concrete slabs. Because they’re made of ultra durable prestressed concrete, they have a high load capacity that minimizes the need for load-bearing structures such as inner walls and columns.
The precast concrete components were produced off site in a controlled environment and were delivered to the jobsite quickly, where they were easily erected. That allowed the construction of the apartment complex to proceed on schedule, without any delays or obstacles to erecting its foundation.
As a result, the owners had a solid base from which to launch the Kenyon Green Apartments.
