Solution: Marina expands patio and enhances walkway with concrete landscape products as part of fuel tank replacement project.
The Madeline Island Yacht Club is a non-profit, member-owned marina in La Pointe, Wis. Originally built in 1967, it was due for some infrastructure upgrades. In 2024, the club began a major project that replaced a set of 50-year-old fuel tanks and added landscaping, walkways, lights, a retaining wall, and a new patio just outside of the Members’ Lounge.
For the patio, walkways, and retaining wall, project leaders specified County Materials’ concrete landscaping products for their design versatility, long-lasting color performance, and traditional aesthetics. Two long walkways connect the parking lot to the new patio where members can relax in nice weather. The walkways and patio feature Grand DISCOVER PAVERS® with Sentinel Sealed TechnologyTM in Enlighten with a border made from 4x8 ELEMENTSTM PAVERS with Sentinel Sealed Technology in Beckon.
Sentinel Sealed Technology combines modern engineering with time-tested European innovation to provide maximum stain resistance, surface protection, and long-lasting color. Unlike field-applied sealers or single-layer primers, Sentinel Sealed Technology bonds two protective layers—a factory-applied penetrating primer and sealer—to the pavers’ surface. The enhanced surface protection will make cleanup of spills easier on the patio. Additionally, Sentinel Sealed Technology provides enhanced slip resistance, which will improve pedestrian safety on the club’s lakeside patio.
The project also included the construction of a retaining wall surrounding two sides of the elevated fuel tank, and an improved pedestrian access to the fuel tank with a staircase made from PASSAGEWAYS® STEP UNITS in Beckon. The retaining wall was constructed with Smooth TRIBUTE WALL SYSTEMS in Enlighten and finished with Double Sided Smooth Rectangle Caps in Enlighten.
Project Highlights:
County Materials’ concrete landscape products are manufactured to endure high traffic and withstand freeze/thaw cycles, which makes them well-suited to the harsh winter climate of Madeline Island. The club members can look forward to enjoying their upgraded patio and walkway for years to come.
